New logo and website for The Department of Politics
and International Relations, University of Oxford
The department is a centre of excellence for teaching and research and one of the largest in the field in the UK. The full name is long – and the old namestyle was no more than the full name alongside the University logo in a standard typeface. We designed a distinctive logo for the department using the initials with a red graduated bar to add a spark of colour that separates the University logo and name. The logo design helps to create a strong masthead to the new website. We also created a new family of logos for the DPIR research centres which makes use of the vibrant new colour palette.
The design approach to the home page was to highlight the main three areas that are key strengths of the department plus a fourth “about” section. These were less prominent in the previous site. News and Events are also featured prominently on the home page. Knowledge Exchange is an special area of the website within the main site. We gave this area a “sister logo” and the design of the site mirrors the main one.
